Battery charger blowing

Hi

Approximately 2 years ago the battery charger on my Bailey 'blew' with a significant popping sound and obviously ceased to work. A quick trip to Halfords and the rest of my break was saved with the purchase of a suitable battery charger.

On my return I searched for a replacement charger - approx £125 ! I had a mate look at it and he identified that a capacitor (little barrel shaped itens on the circuit board) had blows (the bottom appears rounded not flat). He replaced said item - 37p and
two blobs of solder and a case of beer..... worked perfectly.

I've subsequently bought a coachman...18 months later....battery charged failed (Halfords again !!!), but this time not such a simple repair. New item is approx £145 (although a place at Rotherham offer them for £95 ?)

I have asked around and my friend has had a warranty charger replacement on his 2013 Coachman and various people he has spoken to have had repeated similar problems ? Dealers have them as stock items which would suggest that it is quite common problem ?

My question is.....are caravan charges particularly 'delicate' or are there any likely causes for such failures?
