My 3 month old van is leaking

We have just discovered our 3 month old Swift Sprite has been leaking at the front of the van leaving the front pelmet where the top of the curtains are attatched mouldy and soft. We bought a brand new van to try and avoid this sort of thing happening and
are devastated that this has happened. We discovered it too late to phone the supplying dealer tonight and were wondering if anyone had some advice on the best way to tackle the dealer. We love the van but have lost confidence in it as it was obviously leaking
from new.

    I feel your pain Paragon. How awful. We'd be inclined to reject it and say you want a replacement. At 3 months old it is so new that it must've been like it when leaving the factory. Good luck and I really hope you get a satisfactory outcome.

    It's terrible Paragon, you buy a new caravan and it's shocking that it's leaking so early in use, whilst it is 3 months old to you, I would ask for the date it was built, that would let you know how long water has been getting in and could be more ammunition
    for claiming a replacement. Currently the Swift factory is very busy and  most of next years 2017 production has been sold already. If they don't up the inspections and quality control I wonder how many more people will buy caravans that are leaking from new.
    It's about time the CC lobbied these manufacturers on our behalf to improve quality control in production instead of turning out as many as possible

    If it's any consolation, you're not on your own. There was brand new Swift (about 6wks old IIRC)  pitched next to us in France a couple of years ago that had a leak on its front window. Not just a bit damp, it was literally pouring in. I had some wide insulation
    tape that we managed to stem the flow with, but unbelievable on a new caravan.

    Yep it's a bitter pill to swallow but it's a fact that wih any new vehicle or caravan you are extremely lucky if you have no snagging problems.We have had several on our N+B Arto but the dealer (Travelworld of Telford ) have been excellent and all have now
    been rectified.nothing has been to much trouble to them.so we are now all shipshape.we have also had a recall done on the ignition switch and a new one has been fitted.Good luck with yours.

    I would be tempted to reject it but after 3 months you need to get your legal podition right. Before you do anything I would ring the clubs Legal Helpline who will help you.

    If you used a credit card for any part of the payment or bought using HP then you will also have rights against the firm or firms concerned.

    I would also recommend going on to Swift Talk forum and reporting it there. You may get some background input direct from Swift, it can happen.

    Thanks for the replys, we are away in the van at the moment. I think we will have to wait till we're home before doing anything. I don't want to change the van if we can help it as I only last week coughed up for the 5 year tracker and had it paint sealed

    Just go back to your dealer and they will rectify it udner warrany, if possible ask for it to go back to the ffactory and they will sort any other issues too.

    I have just discovered that it is also leaking on the front shifting handle on the opposite side to the other leak. There is water coming out of the botton seal around the handle From the inside out. 

    Our main problem other than the monetary is that we bought the van to take our toddler away outside the school holidays before he has to start school and if it goes into the dealer now the rest of the year will be written off with time we won't get back.

    If your dealer not wanting to have a lot of negative responses when you advise them that ,it needs returning to swift ,they might just in their own interest loan you a van while your is away?Undecided

    Take legal advice to know where you stand and do it quickly the clock is running.  As suggested the CC has a legal advice line, so do thing such as house insurance policies or trade unions.  Remember if th dealer offers to repair you will be without the
    van for period of time.  Personally I would be looking into the possibility of rejecting the van

    We had the same issue with our 3 year old Swift and it was repaired under warranty at a dealer, but took almost 5 months to complete. Our daughter also had water ingress at the rear where the GRP panel split which took a little longer to rectify, so don't
    expect a Swift outcome. Remove as many cussions from touching the front bulkhead as water will transfer across sooner or later. Good luck though.
