Travel abroad- tapeworm treatment

Hello, Is it compulsory to give your pet tapeworm treatment when leaving the UK? Thanks.

    Nicola, no treatments required before leaving the UK for legislation/passport reasons. Clearly makes sense to ensure regular treatments are upto date. The requirements are for the return journey to ensure that foreign nasties aren't brought to these fair
    isles.

    Nicola - no one on mainland Europe seems to give a tuppenny happeny whatsit when you take your dog out of this country - and if you wormed them going out and coming in you would be overdoing it - unless it was a very long holiday!  I find no interest in
    my dogs on arrival in France - although the microchip is usually read before departure - that is the only thing.  Coming back they scrutinise the paperwork to keep our Island free of foreign nasties and of course read the microchip carefully too.  I wasted
    a lot of energy worrying about the whole process and it really is very straightforward.

    A small tip when taking your dog to the vet before returning to the U.K, take a piece of meat/cheese/sausage whatever your dog will most easily wolf down with tablet inside, ours wouldn't swallow tablet  without and we were charged extra for an injection.stressfull
    for dog and us whilst vet trying to get it down

    Good idea one of mine wolf's anything but the big one hasn't been fooled by any treats so I have had to learn exactly how to get pills down her then she gets the treat.  So far all French vets have allowed me to give the pills.

    My son's dog followed him to  Dubai and HAD to have treatment for worms and parasites plus pet passport etc. Before entry was allowed.

    Nope, have you a link to an item about it? a quick google search throws up nothing related to pets.

    Polio and pets?  Rabies is the crucial one normally?

    Carrying on from Pippah's post above.  The dog should have an 'in-date' rabies injection recorded on the pet passport before tracelling into Europe.   Do make sure that the vaccination does not become out of date during your visit or else there will be problems
    when your try to bring your dog home.

    Good point David and the rabies cannot be given at the same time as routine jabs.  AND there has to be a 3 week gap between the rabies jab and return to uk.  I.e.  it's no good doing rabies just before a two week holiday - you won't be able to bring the
    dog home!  I had problems this year with a family emergency in France.  Then compounded with a ferry cancelling a sailing home and having to do the dogs health checks twice in 5 days.  Fortunately the French vet was sympathetic.
