Satellite Dish - A Fatal Attraction
Setting a 60cm dish up at home in the garden to learn the procedure, I had to use the front garden as the house blocked the satellite view. Set up the elevation using a inclinometer and the skew. I had a good idea which direction to point the dish by looking at the neighbour's fixed dish. However, I used a compass thinking this would be needed on site. but I ended up pointing in a different direction. Knowing the direction of North I knew something was wrong with the compass and went and bought a new one. (£20). Tried again it was virtually the same. So by eye I aligned with the fixed dishes and got a wonderful picture. By this time a number of neighbours started 'helping'. Went through loads of theories to no avail so as it was now dark I put it all away. Then I had a bolt out of the sky when I looked at my magnetic bracelet. Everytime I went near the compass it gave a false reading.
