Maybe I've simply not been paying attention, but it came as a complete surprise to me to read in DT Motoring supplement that paper driving licences are being scrapped, from June 8th onwards.

Apparently, one fifth of the 46 million UK driving licences are still paper only. That includes me.

According to the article, DVLA have as usual not thought things through, and folks who apply for a new photocard are advised to ignore DVLA instruction to discard old paper licence.

I would have kept mine in any case, too many horror stories in the past about folks receiving new licence only to discover errors, such as missing entitlement to motorcycle licence, only remeding by retaking test etc.
