Montacute House and dogs

Rather than go off topic on the current Dogs on Site thread, thought I'd relate something similar here.

Earlier in the year, we called in at Montacute House, en route to Seaton. Dogs are allowed in on short leads, provided that they 'are kept on the gravel paths'.

Fair enough. But then the inevitable happened, and my Border Terrier decided that she needed a dump, no holding it. So she edged of the gravel on to the grass, this in a remote corner of the grounds away from the most visited areas. As I was cleaning up
after, an NT person came literally racing across to berate me for this, stating that ' they would have to review their dogs policy ', if this sort of thing continued to happen.

So what to do ? I'm sure it's easier to clean up on grass than on the gravel path, which is what I assume she expected me to do. Give the dog an enema before taking it anywhere on the lead ?

I live near Montacute and I'm pleased that they are finally welcoming dogs, but if they have asked you to keep to the gravel paths it's only fair to comply. There is also plenty of parkland adjoining for proper dogs walks.

I'm not disputing that it's only fair to do as asked, and stick to the gravel path. Just that in the event of an unexpected bowel movement, I thought it easier to clean up from the grass, rather than on the gravel path.

Richard, if you gave your dog an enema first then surely you would need a bowl of soapy water and a scrubbing brush etc., in order to do a proper job on cleaning up their gravel? Laughing
