Reporting a Truant

For some months now I have noticed on occasion a young lad loitering around our area, at times when I feel sure he ought to be in school. I estimate his age to be around 12 years or so.

Yesterday, he spent the whole day sitting on his bicycle down by my lock up garage, where I was going back and forth doing some work down there. He was back again today, and this time I asked him whether he should
be at school. However, he did not reply, and just walked off.

We have been out today and on our return he was still hanging about, temperatures very low over the last couple of days. It is my belief that he waits for school friends in the afternoon and returns home with them, after apparently spending a day at school).
He is still there now, at 3:25pm.

I have no idea who this boy is or where he lives, although I would speculate that it is somewhere in the local area.

Perhaps I should mind my own business, but if anything should happen, and I hadn't reported it, them what ? Wife speculates that he is being bullied at school ( he is a little shrimp), parents out at work etc.

In the end, I telephoned the education dept at our local council, who advised me to send them an email detailing my concerns.

I can't think what else, if anything, I can do about this.

Any thoughts ?
