Noseweights
Are we all dangerously driving our towcars above our car manufacturers noseweight limit? I drive the largest and heaviest car that Volvo produces, an XC90 4 x 4. It has a noseweight limit of 90kg. I tow a single axle Bailey Unicorn Valencia 2011 model with a fixed bed layout that pushes the heavy kitchen forward to the front of the van. I can not get my noseweight below 100kg. I see my car towing twin axle vans that will never be a match. If I changed my car today I would have to go for a Land Rover Discovery with a noseweight limit of 150kg. I have recently written to the Volvo design team in Sweden who are working on the new XC90 to be launched in 2014 to tell them that new caravans are heavy on noseweight with fixed beds and they have thanked me and assured me they will look at this in the new design. How many of us in our club check our noseweight? We all really should as cars are not keeping pace with heavier caravans and in particular the fixed bed issue.
