Is there an easy answer out there? Aux or Veh

Hi all, I am getting a little confussed. I have just bought an Elldis motorhome and a newbie. My Question is : When should I switch the panel to Aux and When to Veh. My mind tells me that the Aux is for the leisure battery and Veh is for the cab battery.
But why should I want to use the Veh/cab battery when using power in the motorhome. Surely I should only use the Aux /battery for all power in the cab. Or am I getting myself all jumbled up. Is there an easy answer out there?
