Gas and Electricty Truma Fire

i have been reading an article in one of the current caravan mags about winter caravanning and the suggestion to use BOTH Gas and Electicity to warm up the 'van at the same time, once it's achieved the required warmth, to switch the GAS off and to maintain
the heat using Electrcity only. I have checked our 2011 Coachman Handbook and it says that "Coachman do not recommend using both Gas and Electrity, what are your thoughts, I thought of putting this to "ask an expert" but you never seem to get a swift response.
