Rumour has it that they are breeding again in several locations in England, one close to me but is there any evidence of successful fledglings this year? Saw them a couple of years back in Norfolk/Suffolk. Truly beautiful creatures.

Well, since 2015 the crane reintroduction programme has gone from strength to strength. From zero breeding birds only a few decades ago to a significant number in 2024. Let’s hope 2025 will be another successful season.

We saw a pair of them the other day on the Nene Washes Nature Reserve, and talking to a group of regular visitors they seem to be seen often so perhaps are breeding there.
