Alternatives to fixed carpets in caravans

I was recently reading in the letters about the problems associated with having fixed carpets in caravans. I don't have fixed carpets in my van though I do think carpets contribute to making the van cosy. My van is  carpetted by using good quality rubber
backed bath mats from Costco  which are ideal. After each trip I just take them out and toss them into the washer so they are nice and clean ready for the next trip. The dogs love them too.
