Noisy hitch.

We went off this weekend to try out our new van and experienced at times a noisy thumping hitch.
The van has a winterhoff stabiliser and we found that when slowing down/cornering and going round roundabouts we expereinced loud thumping knocking sounds.
I checked online and followed some advise re giving the tow ball a good sand/wipe and the trip home was very much quieter.
