Swapping from awning to non awning pitch

Although I never put up an awning on occasions I have to book an awning pitch due to the fact that only these are available. Now I know, from reading other threads, that seeing units on awning pitches without awnings irks some folk no end.
So, on our arrival, should we not offer to take or be offered a non awning option if booking circumstances have changed significantly?
