Plastic decking anyone?

Has anyone had any experience of plastic decking?  My son is thinking of having their decking replaced with it  to reduce the maintenance and has had one quote of £6k which is out of the question.  Is this the going rate do you know?  And is the extra expense
worth the outlay?  Any thoughts?

It may not be the same but I've walked on plastic decking fitted as a veranda around a static caravan. It didn't seem very sturdy and it flexed as I walked on it. I didn't like it at all. Plastic does deteriorate in sunlight and weather.

We have had plastic decking on the verandah at our sailing club which has been down for a few years now. Better than the iffy wood which it replaced.

Thanks everyone!  From what Cyber and TW have said, it seems that maybe there are different grades available, so I think my son will have to do a bit more research!

hi, i work for a company that has it in our range,

a composite deck , may fade in time exposed to the uv rays, also there have been some faliures due to perishing over a few years. in general it is a very good product , easy to maintain, does not promote algea growth so not as slippery.

just google ... metsawood composite decking.

Thanks dbutt.  Our son has just shown us the samples he has picked up and it looks really thick and sturdy with a choice of dark brown or grey.  Bearing in mind the fading issue you have mentioned, maybe any fading would be less noticeable in the grey colour.
Will google the website mentioned, and thanks again!

That reconstructed boading that they use for board-walks and so on looks very good.

Did our decking 8 yrars ago. Used Iron Wood. It is exactly that you cannot even get a nail in it without first drilling a hole. It was more expensive than softwood decking but you can use a pressure washer on it and it looks really good. It's now turned
a silver colour in the sun. Laughing
