Insurance query

has anyone dealt with this scenario before?  Yesterday we purchased a used car on which the previous owner had a personal plate, he did all the necessary with DVLA and received a new V5 with the new normal registration. When we went to insure our new vehicle
the company couldn't find the new reg number on their database so they issued insurance on the old personal plate.  We taxed it ok using the new registration without any problems.  I'm now concerned that the police may say it is not insured as the certificate
has a different number to the one on the car.  Insurance co. is closed today plus our local police station is also closed and would really like to drive new car but don't want to risk being 'pulled'.  If anyone has any experience of this I would appreciate
your feedback or I'll just have to wait and make the call tomorrow.
