we did this last year....stayed in Poole Park till around 10:30pm when the previous ferry had unloaded and then drove the 2 miles to the port...

just need to check the earlier ferry times as the port has to clear prior to your parking there..

We stop on the quay on a regular basis. Park up about 7.00pm..   Get a good nights sleep, then get knocked up by the ferry staff at 06.30.

In coming ferry traffic is well away from the outward bound quay!

    Simple!

Long time since we used the Poole - Cherbourg ferry - is it possible to ring the port and ask for clarification?

There are short and long term parking facilities opposite the terminal. Caravans cannot be left in the car park but can be parked 'overnight' in the car lanes for a £5.00 fee. There is 24 hours access to toilet facilities. Please call
    01202 440220 for details.

Write your comments here...That seems a very reasonable fee for an overnight stop. We recently paid over £12 for an overnight stop at the Leigh Delamere Services on the M4.
