Downplating MTPLM

I'm new to caravanning and have not yet bought one. I would like to buy a used Sprite Alpine, 4 berth, the MTPLM is 1220 kg & my car is a Mokka, max towing weight 1200kg. If I get a Sprite can I replate it to read 1200kg using the blanks you get on line
or has it to be done by the manufacturer?. Cheers, Levitickus Kerbside weight of the Mokka is over 1500kg
