Enterprise car hire or not

Is it just us that are unlucky or has anyone else suffered in the hands of Enterprise. Last year when on holiday in Devon we booked a car and then the night before they contacted us and said they could not pick us up the next day. We are on holiday in Cornwall and booked a car for today at 5pm. They picked us up and took us to the office and after 30minutes they said the person with the car was in Truro so it would be the next day. We only wanted it for a couple of days so would have lost half a day again picking it up. has anyone else had similar problems?
