We have seen a used caravan today that we have really fallen for but the trouble is when I did a CC towing match it said a big fat NO!  The question is as follows- the car in question is an X Trail 2011 diesel manual with a kerb weight of 1615kgs and the
caravan is a Hymer Nova 570   year 2007 with an MRO of 1410kgs and an MTPLM of 1700kgs which is a massive payload of 290kgs! I would never carry that amount of kit in my caravan, I would estimate something like 150kgs in my present van with awning etc etc
which puts me at around 1560kgs and would put me in the permissible bracket, question is would I be prosecuted, and my insurance be null and void in the event of accident in view of the 1700kg plate on the caravan even though I was below the rated MTPLM. I
would not go ahead with the purchase obviously on that basis... Any help would be most appreciated with you legal beagles out there!

Cheers. Rog
