Honda CRV

We have a Honda CRV 2.2 SE CDTi, which we love and it tows our Swift Challenger with ease.   We went to have a look at the new CRV in our local Honda agent.   To our horror we find that Honda are no longer doing the CRV 2.2 diesel only a 2.0 with a petrol
engine or a 1.6 with a diesel.   When we asked about the reason we were told that it is due to a European directive which will come into force in 2016 with limits to emissions.  Although we were told that we could tow our van with the lessor car the kerb weight
is too low.  Has anyone else heard anything about this?
