Getting pegs out of hard ground/stone?
Whilst we were away for our first proper tour I was caught out by the lack of suitable pegs for hard ground and also how to remove them once they are in. I even buckled one of the pegs for the canopy tie down kit whilst getting it out. I tried to look at what others did but was never successful in seeing anyone remove pegs from the hard ground so was left pretty much to my own devices. The problem, as I see it, is that once the heavy duty pegs are into the stone by some 6” then there is almost no simple way to extract them because they do not have heads etc., like a nail for timber, that you can pull with a claw hammer, then if I used a hammer in some fashion the leverage was insufficient to pull the full peg out. I ended up knocking them from side to side to loosen them and eventually pull them out with my claw hammer. Next time I will take my crow bar to give greater leverage and with my blocks of wood may find it easier. I am even thinking about possibly trying pliers to grip the shank and then lever on that. I cannot be alone in having difficulty as another camper broke the plastic head on one of his canopy pegs and everyone I asked did not have an answer.
I have now bought some rock pegs but they still have plastic heads and no obviouse point to lever on.
What do others do in these situations?
