Headlight convertors for Ducato?

I have a 2012 reg Fiat Ducato motor home and am receiving contradicting advice about continental travel ranging from headlight covers with masked area for beam deflection to fitting the stick on beam deflectors to the plastic lens. I always thought that
the latter could cause damage to the new style plastic lenses. Anyone out there got any definitive guidance on this topic. Regards. Roy
