We are relatively new motorhomers but have just had a fantastic 2 months in France & Spain for our first proper tour. We liked the ability to stay as long on a site or move off at short notice as we wished without any need to book in advance, pay in advance if it was more than one night and the general flexibility the continental attitude to booking out of main season. After all that is what touring is about, if the weather is bad we can move elsewhere.

We have decided to visit Scotland in September and October for two months and already have found some minor difficulties as some of the CC sites in the Highlands are closed around the end of September. Again we want to have maximum flexibility to stay or move on as we wish so do not really want to book the full 2 months in advance and have a pre-planned holiday.

From those of you out there who have great experience in such things what do you think the chances are of the wardens letting us stay as long/short a time as we wished, providing the site is not full? We don’t want to have to give 3 nights notice to leave or suffer cancelation costs. I would probably book the site the day before arrival by phone rather than just turn up as there are not too many to choose from. I have looked at the sites on the CC web site and none of them are showing fully booked, even at a weekend, for this time of year. We will probably stay at around 9 CC sites during the tour and come home if the weather turns particularly bad.

Any help on this unknown topic for me is most welcome.
