Mazda CX5 Mass in Service - weight
Hi
I have just placed a deposit on a new (demo) CX5 175PS sport which I know Xtrailman rates highly. Perhaps he can shed some light on the issue I am confused with.
The Mazda brochure gives a kerbside weight of 1671kg which is fine to keep me round about the 85% mark for towing my caravan.
The dealer confirmed that this is the correct kerbside weight - as they would because they too rely on the brochure.
I have since read an old post by Xtrailman where his V5C gave a 'Mass in service' figure of 1490 kg (Mass in service' generally being accepted to be the same as 'kerbside weight' in terms of definition.)
I checked my current cars 'brochure weight' and its V5C figure for mass in service and the two figures match.
So I have been back to the dealers and looked at the V5C which gives the same figure as Xtrailman has - if this is indeed the same as 'kerbside weight' then the car is not heavy enough for my caravan.
The dealer is going to ask Mazda why there are two figures and whether "mass in service does mean kerbside weight etc" but if Xtrailman does pick this up - did you ever get any clearer explanation yourself?
