Weekend of Firsts

This weekend was my first one away with my new (to me) caravan, first time with an Avondale with midships gas locker and kitchen, first time with a bar stabiliser rather than a hitchhead one, and first time I've been to Melrose.

All was absolutely brilliant, she towed like a dream despite being a five-berth compared to my old two-berth, Melrose and the area around are gorgeous, and I really didn't want to leave. I'm already planning another trip for April when more of the local attractions, such as the Roman museum, are open. I much prefer the stabiliser as it doesn't get in the way of the spare wheel on the car's rear door and I can open the door to let the dogs in and out while hitched up. Towing seemed much better but probably a combination of a better balanced van and the stabiliser.

Even better, just as I was making the final preparations for travel on Friday, the postie delivered the service papers from the dealer - maximum 14% damp in a couple of places, the rest in single figures. Which, if you remember the saga of the Damp Van with 90% damp that I managed to reject, is absolutely dancing about the room good news. I knew she was a good van and that I'd been assured she was dry but to see figures like that for a 9 year old van in writing...! Happy, happy dance Laughing
