Big White Box?
I have a love of vintage caravans' style, despite loving my modern comforts. I was reading my latest book on vintage caravan style when I started to wonder when caravans changed from the varied colours to the now-standard cream/white with decals, and what
people would prefer.
I know that I love being able to put my own stamp on my surroundings and tend to treat my caravan as my very own wendy house on wheels (I caravan solo and the dogs don't get a vote!)
. My style is mainly "shabby chic" with a touch of country and a good dollop of girly - cue fairy lights, homemade cushions, crochet
blankets on the sofas, ornaments (all carefully packed in bubble wrap for travel), battery-operated candles, etc. All of it can be removed if I sell though I plan to keep this 10-year-old Avondale as long as possible. I am very tempted to paint the sides though.
Yet a caravanning friend of mine is horrified by anyone bothering to change the decor of their caravan or bring along ornaments - "they had a candelabra on the table in their awning!!!", "I bet you've got a table lamp and a spinning flower too". Personally,
I wouldn't buy a show house complete with furniture chosen by someone else and I like to chose my caravan decoration too, rather than be surrounded by cushions and curtains chosen by the manufacturer and the same as everyone else - but everyone to their own
and I'm not judging.
I love just sitting in the caravan, surrounded by all the things I've made and bought, just for myself and allowed myself to go slightly over the top in a way I wouldn't do in the house. Yes, I'm probably sad...
So - do people prefer some individualisation or do they prefer to just let the manufacturers deal with the inside or outside decoration?
