What towbar do I require for new Ford Galaxy 2016

I was told my detachable swan neck tow bar on my 2013 Galaxy would not be suitable for towing with my new 2016 Galaxy. My caravan is a 2010 Europa 530. Having removed old towbar (Now lying in my shed) I find that the qoutes I have been given seem exorbitant
(eg £630 Witter) Apparently the new cars have so much new technology on that they require software updates etc. I do appreciate the need to have the correct towbar fitted for safety reasons. Can the original towbar be used safely with dedicated wiring if fitted
by a proffessional fitter. Regards John

All tow bars have to be type approved for the vehicle they are going to be fitted to, so if your 2013 tow bar has not been type approved for the 2016 Galaxy then it can't be fitted.

The 2016 Galaxy is a completely different car to the 2013 model...... It was totally re engineered and redesigned. Having spent what presumably is the thick end of £25grand or more on a car and whatever you spend on a caravan, I am somewhat bemused at quibbling
at spending another few hundred pounds On a towbar, especially given the safety implications. Stick your old towbar on flea-bay, you might get a bid.

As a general rule unless your new car has exactly the same bodyshell as the old one you need a new towbar. Having said that I doubt the cost of that is anything more than a minor part of the total cost. The real cost is the wiring loom and the cost of fitting
that so keeping the tow bar is no real saving and removing the loom even if it will fit will be a long dificult job.
