The Club has a wide range of membership and I’m not convinced that it all wants sites with “all-singing, all-dancing” facilities all of the time. At the other end of the spectrum I think there are some who’d like the flexibility of being able to turn up and “chance it”. We don’t always know what our circumstances will be, especially if travelling long distances, and being tied to a schedule that becomes inappropriate introduces unnecessary stress at a time when we should be relaxing.

Accordingly, I’d like to suggest that the Club creates a network of simple “stop-over” sites, rather like the Aire system in France. I’m not suggesting motorhomes only, just somewhere for members to stay with basic essentials and no booking.

Would there be much demand?

If the Club is reluctant to create or manage such facilities itself, it should be encouraging local authorities to do so. Like incorporating them into Park and Ride schemes, for example.

It works on the continent. What make us so different? Couldn’t we do it even better?
