A9 stop over site

Hi, we have not started a discussion on here before so advance apologies if it is in the wrong place. My wife and I are planning a trip up to Altnaharra this summer for 5 nights and are looking for a stop over around half way back to Falkirk in the central
belt of Scotland (probably somewhere on the A9 we thought). We have 2 dogs and don't mind a short detour off our route for a nice site to walk them at if possible. Any suggestions where to try?
