Caravan electrics and services

Hello, I am a total newbie and will be making my first trip out on tuesday. I am comletely confused by the electrics on my caravan.

The water pump only works off the battery and the fridge only works off either mains or gas. Yes, it will work off battery too, but only when car engine is running. Some lights work off the mains and others on battery. If I want to watch TV I have to switch
to mains only.

So, I can use the fridge and TV together, but will have no running water. If I want constant running water I will have to run the fridge off gas and not watch TV.

This is crazy!

There must be a way to get round all of this?

Do I just have to keep switching back and forth?
