Mains hook up plug pins welded

I am just back after a 4 day break and had mains hook but when I tried to remove the connection from the site supply I found that the live feed had welded itself to the socket. What could have caused this problem. We did not have any electrical problems
during the stay . I thought if there had been a problem then the van fuse box would have tripped. Has anybody heard of this problem any help would be appreciated.
