MTPLM - meaningless??
My current Sterling was plated at 1650KG on delivery. For £40 I bought and had fitted a 1750KG plate from Swift. No change to Alko chassis required.
Now buying a Bailey Unicorn Cordoba. Plated weight 1750. Can be increased to 1800 for £50. Dealer says Bailey are probably going to reduce the "advertised" MTPLM to 1650, but upgrade to 1800 can still be purchased.
The manufactureres fix these MTPLM's for the sole reason of selling more vans that can be towed by smaller/lighter vehicles - so more sales. Bugger all to do with the actual capacity of the chassis.
Wonder if the same applies to noseweights? Whilst I stick rigidly to the noseweight dictated by my tug, I tend to ignore the chassis noseweight limit - in fact I haven'y yet found it stamped anywhere on my towbar.
Thought I'd start this discussion as a change from dogs.
