Falling standards

Having visited Tredegar some weeks ago I was again disappointed at the standards set by the club. CC sites are no longer 'special'. They are, in a lot of cases, badly maintained and looking somewhat run down. The ridiculous dash for green credentials has meant toilets that don't flush and are ignored after the third try (with all the horrors that entails), smelly urinals, overflowing bins, hand dryers that don't because the heating element has been disabled. Other issues noted, broken coat hooks in the gents, toadstools growing out of the joint between the wall and floor lining in the old gents disabled shower cubicle. This could mean serious rot in the wall, perhaps not helped by the partially blocked exhaust ducts. Partially blocked drains, taps which need repair, the list is extensive.

We pay a lot to visit sites nowadays and the private sector seems to be showing the way in terms of quality. Some CC sites are superb but only because they have wardens who go the extra mile and fix things and do what is needed.  Perhaps the head office staff are much too wrapped up in aquisitions and insurance sales to remember that they are supposed to be directing a club, on behalf of the members, which focuses on excellence and not mediocrity.
