    Down!

Given the state of some of our roads I would think there is a real risk of it falling and possibly shattering if left up.

Sorry,  didnt  mean  to  shout  Embarassed.

You  can  join  us  old  fogeys  if  you  like  --  any  old  tea  towels  ( Clean  but  well  worn  )  are  used  to  wrap  hobs,  grill  pans  etc  and  also  to  pad  out  the  cupboards  with  crockery,  salt  n'  pepper  pots  etc.  The  only  creaks
&  rattles  they  don't  work  on are  those  of  the  Human  variety  alas  !

When we had a glass lid - we have now taken it off - we used to tow with it down with a towel underneath it to stop it rattling

Buy some of those sticky pads from a DIY store which you use to cushen cupboard door closures or satick under vases to stop the scratching furniture and stick a couple on the hob corners. That stops any rattling.

    Always have the lid down.

Curious - how do you know it rattles when towing when you're not inside the van? Happy

I'm okay with rattles as I can't hear them.  What would bother me would be if I found all my stuff had bounced out of the cupboards onto the floor. Sad

The very first time I towed a brand new Abbey caravan to a site I entered the van to find the fridge door had come off its hinges and everything was on the deck.Surprised

    Yeuck!

Oooh!  Not a good advert for Abbey.  Milk especially would make a mess of the carpet.

The Glass Hob cover on my Coachman actually carries a very clear warning affixed, - never to tow with the glass in the up position!

As I know from my motorhome which uses the same sort of hob as many caravans it does rattle. We get round this by placing a tea towel across the hob and lowering the glass lid onto it which seems to work quite well.  Another reason for travelling with the
lid down is that in the up position it also allows the gas hob to be used so there is a risk, if left up, that gas could escape in certain circumstances.

We have some little ornaments (they are made of rubber so it doesnt matter if they fall off) which we leave out on a corner shelf. We know if the ride has been rough as they will be on the seat on arrival.  The only thing we have broken that way was the
turntable in the microwave - now we take it out before travelling.

We always tow with the lid down. In something over 20 years we have hit some fair old bumps but never had a problem.

If you start a journey with the glass lid up, you'll probably end it with it having fallen down. You wouldn't be happy to risk dropping it if you were in the van because it might break, but that's what is happening when you tow. Also, in the case of many
four ring hobs the counterbalance operates with two springs, which have a habit of coming off their hooks if the lid is dropped - the oven has to be removed to restore them.
