Quinces

while walking the dog I saw, outside a cottage, a box with "Help yourself" written on it.  Inside the box were some quinces.  I took a couple and presented them to Mrs R.  We checked various cookbooks and all that quinces are useful for, it seems, is either
quince jelly or, you can cut one in half and use it as a car freshener - they don't rot apparently, just slowly dry out whilst giving off a pleasant smell.  Anyone else got a use for quinces?
