Renewed mine last year, no hassle, they electronically copy everuthing across.  Got to renew next year due to the 70th, can even do that online

The DVLA were brillient when I had my licence stolen in Italy a few years ago. I rang them about 16.00 on the Friday of the Jubilee Weekend and they faxed my authorisation to drive to the campsite in Rome we were staying at.

Ha no everything done electronically.  They use your current passport photo, saves all the hassle of photo booths.

I am sure it 'usually' all works fine.  However when my wife turned 70 it transpired that DVLA had her birthday  recorded as a few days later than the actual date as per her passport. (she still had an old-style green license). It seems
their system is indexed primarilly by DOB.

Had to send birth certificate; 2 marriage certificates; new photo; photocopy of passport;......
Sad.  (After that it did arrive very quickly).
