ATC Locking brakes

Taken from another forum....

I have a Unicorn Valencia and experienced a concerning situation in France recently.

On arriving at a site I used the caravan to reverse onto the pitch and had use of the opposite pitch at the time which was empty to position my caravan precisely.

When I came to leave I first of all decided to use the motor mover to get the caravan to an angle where I could hitch the car. The mover spun on the wheels and had no effect.

Next I hitched the car at a very acute angle and decided to hitch the electrics when straight because there were on the tight side and difficult to access.

Then I found my car an XC 90 was pulling the caravan and the wheels were locked.

I thught a had a major problem with the brakes and was about to call the emergency services when a neighbour came and said you need to hitch the electics. Bingo everything was OK.

When I got home and called my dealer they knew straight away and the advice was to disconnect the electrics FIRST before appling the handbrake while the caravan is still hitched.

If you apply the handbrake first the ATC locks the the brake until the electrics are connected.

None of this was in the Bailey handbook.

I think this is a serious omission, I was luck to still be able to hitch the car with difficulty & with greater difficulty connect the electrics.

If I had used the mover in the first place to pitch the caravan, it would not have happened because I connect the mover before disconnecting.

Has anybody else also experienced this problem?

A new one on me, I'm on my second ATC unit and have not come upon this problem, your thoughts.

Allan.
