mpg towing on continent?

Hi All,

Just spent the last week having a fantastic holiday in France. However I noticed that I was getting about 22mpg when towing. I have a CRV 2.2 diesel and a 2-berth Stirling Europa 460 caravan. I was in a bit of a hurry so was driving at around the 70mph (110kph)
mark. I haven't noticed this sort of consumption when caravanning in the UK (albeit driving at the 60mph limit). Do you all think this is normal? I felt all wheels (including caravan) for brake binding every time I stopped but all were cool/warm only.

Any advice greatly appreciated
