A14/M1/M6 Junction

Hi All

Later this week we will be towing from Welwyn in Hertfordshire to near Uttoxeter in Staffordshire via A1/A14/M1/A50. I have noticed that there are often significant queues westbound on the A14 approaching the roadworks at the A14/M1/M6 junction. From the
map there appears to be a route that would avoid these – leaving the A14 on the A 5199 northbound to Husbands Bosworth, then westbound on the A4304, rejoining the M1 at junction 20.

Can anyone locally (or otherwise) tell me if this is a viable route for towing and/or worth using to avoid queues? Thanks in advance.
