Batteries and awning

Hi. We are very new to caravaning. Just had our first weekend away in our caravan.  Few things I'm hoping somebody can help with.  Firstly is the battery. It doesn't work!  It's a new battery so I know there's no trouble with the actual battery, but no power
runs to anything when not connected to hook up, everything works fine then, plugs etc.  only thing that doesn't seem to work of electric is the fridge.  Which works fine on gas! Also can anyone recommend an easy to construct, light and fairly reasonably priced
awning? Our friends have a vango blow up one which seemed good?
