does 250kg really make a difference?

Hi i have a Rav4 front wheel drive and it can tow up to 1000kg my caravan is 900 fully loaded, but i am finding that my Rav is struggling, now i have been looking at buying another car, but they only come up to a extra 200 - 250kg extra towing, (ie 1250kg)
these being deisel rather than petrol which i have now, my problem is now do i need to go for a 2litre engine or will this extra 250 make a difference, cars which i have been looking at are as follows:- nissan juke, nissan qashqai, ford kuga and vauxhall mokka.
any help in this matter would to appreciated.
