Safety cut off for cooker hoods

I have just purchased a new Compass Carona , which I am very pleased with. But whilst away the knob on our Thetford cooker electric hotplate was accidentaly turned on. luckily we were in the van as the glass lid gave a loud pop, and collapsed, rather than explode. What I find most surprising is that there are no safety devices to prevent this happening. I have read various threads on other sites and surprisingly find this has happened to other caravan and motorhome owners who seem to regard it as funny rather than a serious issue as it is not standard to fit cut off devices when cooker lid is down. surely this is a major issue which should be persued by the club or their insurers. I would be interested to hear the clubs view on this.
