Lunar water inlet cracks

I have a 4 month old Lunar Delta RI. The Truma hot water system is fed from the external tank, through a large connecting plate incorporating the water supply pipe connection, a water filter housing, a dial marked with dates  to record fitting the filter, and an external shower connection. The backplate has cracked and broken around 3 of the 4 fixing screws, and is being replaced by the dealer.

Has anyone else had this problem on 2016 Lunar?

Yes. I have had exactly the same problem with this item on my 2016 Delta TS.

There were star cracks around the lower fixing screws and a crack in the inlet pipe which let in air so the water did not flow smoothly. Before I replaced it water was coming into the van when I turned the taps on as the crack had increased in length up
    the pipe.

I had flagged it up as a warranty issue with my dealer but had to replace it when I was away in the caravan, using a mobile service technician, due to the water coming into the van.

I can only guess that the torque on the power driver used to screws the screws in the factory had been set to high. It's a pity the PDI hasn't picked it up though.

PDI they didn't kid you they did one.  All the waste pipes under van fell off after 3 months.  Wrong window catches installed. I don't have a Delta but a 2015 Lunar dealer special.  Oh by the way they are going to have to replace the floor in my unit.

Your problems indicate a design fault, in the car industry it would warrant a recall.

That is one of the things that our 3 month old delta ti it was leaking water into the van from the housing and caused a damp issue make sure they check for damp under the seating

I think the root of the problem may be the brittle grade of plastic that has been used. My inlet cracked in the filter housing tube after I had fitted a new filter. Tightening the screw cap back on probably cracked the tube which then allowed water to leak
from under the cap. Tightening the cap more to try to prevent the leak just made it worse. Because we were away at the time I resolved the problem by removing the filter insert completely and coating the cracked area with epoxy resin. This seems to have done
the trick as it has now been OK for about 35 days use.

I spoke to the dealer about a replacement under warranty which they said would be possible but I would need to take the caravan to them for them to remove the housing and send it to Truma for inspection and ultimately, a replacement. This would mean that
I would be without the use of the caravan for a few week. Just what you want in the summer.  If Truma will not supply one then, for what they cost, I'll buy one and fit it myself. It appears to be a very simple job according to the Truma fitting instructions.

Thank you everyone. Seems to me that Truma have a fundamental design fault on these units. I shall keep a close eye on the new unit.

Now all Lunar need to sort are the LEDs around the lounge rooflight and over the bed head which don't work, the corner spotlight in the lounge which doesn't work, pair the alarm and key fobs (on the already replaced ) alarm, adjust the high level kitchen
cupboard door so that it closes, and sort the lock on the battery box and the new van will be spot on!

Oh the joys of a new caravan!

We too have Delta TS 2016 and have had problems the bathroom tap leaked at the base I did fix it but still had a new one fitted, the mattress on one of the beds started giving way after two trips, the water would only draw from the aqua roll and
not the inboard tank and finaly the panaramic roof light on had one plastic bung in it allowing insects to come in between the two sections. If you cant get satisfaction from your dealer mail this nice lady at Lunar ewhiteside@lunarcaravans.com or if that
dont work try elainewhiteside@lunarcaravans.com Oh i forgot to mention the high level marker light lens keprt dropping off. But fair do's to Chichester Caravans at Bromsgrove ( in particular John ) for hopefully sorting out all my problems on the same day
    and in under three hours

We have a delta Ts had water inlet replaced, one led reading light. Now back in for onboard tank level gauge fault ,flies in main sky light (plugs not fitted) ,led lights working when they feel like it,. Has any one got to the bottom of the fault with the light, dealer says connected to onboard tank fault ,

I have also got flies in the large sun roof, also due to a missing plug, and one of the LED corner lights in the front has failed. I have put in a warranty claim.

I don't use the on board tank, I just use an aquaroll, so can't comment on the gauge.

We too have suffered the same issue with our 2017 Lunar Clubman SE. On arriving for our 6th night of our holiday in Germany, water gushed out of the floor vents and after it flooded the offside under bed locker. After drying out the flood we discovered the outer housing is cracked around all four screw fixings. It looks like it has been installed too tightly and with the movement of the Van on the road has cracked the plastic.

Result we currently have no running water in the Van for the remainder of our holiday. This is just the icing on the cake after discovering a number of minor faults which have spoilt our holiday and our overall feelings toward the new Van. it really is inexcusable on a Van costing nearly £25K.

After phoning the dealer back home and my regular NCC mobile repairer this seems to be a common problem with Lunar Caravans built in 2016/17. Our previous 2015 Clubman SE was 100 percent fault free, I'm beginning to wish we'd never changed it!

Same cracked water inlet problem was identified on our 2016 Lunar Quasar 462  back in June on its first service. Also failed LED light and three front windows have condensation problem. Has meant we have to curtail use of van for the summer because every time we use the taps water seeps into fabric of van and under beds.  Have gone back to water bottles for short trips...just like proper camping. The most annoying thing is that whilst Lunar have accepted the warranty claim they have yet to deliver the water inlet part. Their communication with our Lunar approved/NCC  mobile repairer is virtually non-existent. They only accept E Mail correspondence  - won't accept phone calls. They have failed to respond to our E Mail apparently refusing to correspond with end customers. We will never buy a Lunar again. Faulty parts/poor assembly is one thing, but bad customer service is unacceptable these days. Lunar need to wake up.

I also had a virtually fault free Lunar Clubman SE 2011 model which I part exchanged for a Lunar Ultima 570 and this is causing me various problems including water ingress from the front windows. Also 4 out of 6 reading lights have failed and have barely been used for a few hours each. Lunar will not replace them. Lunar really appear to be on a downward slope.

This is a sorry tale but typical of the caravan industry where in some areas quality and workmanship are dirty words and customer service has disappeared altogether in favour of a policy of get the money, get it off the sales pitch and job done. Consumer rights says goods should be durable, fit for purpose and free from minor faults, not forgetting that your contract is with the seller not the manufacturer although the dealers constantly use the  "well we are waiting for Lunar/Swift/Bailey" excuse to deflect the consumer away from their desk.

We had a plug come out of our large sunroof in a Clubman and also had a fly crawl in, the plug reappeared on the floor after about three weeks and has been replaced. The fly has virtually disappeared into a corner as we travelled and I guess in this heat has probably been well and truly been cremated!
