Early departure

We booked 5 night trip to High Onn, beautiful but basic. On third day my wife collapsed with kidney problems and medical advice was to return home as she would be in pain for some days. I returned to site at 1710 and wardens were tending their garden. I explained and was told we are shut, plus of course the paperwork would be horrendous. With bad grace I was given 1 night refund and had to forfeit remaining 2 nights because East Grinstead would not like it! We all know the rules but a touch of kindness and compassion on this difficult and worrying occasion would have been welcome, instead of irritation and annoyance. Where have all the kindly and helpful wardens gone?

We were forced to leave Hunters Moon site one day early because of illness. The warden has confirmed a £43.30 early departure retention reference 0012914050.

Can I claim this as a credit against a future booking

I wouldn't think so but have you checked the T&Cs and/or with the club?

As I understand it, a certain amount of notice of early departure is required to avoid forfeiting one night's fee.

    c. We understand that members and non-members sometimes wish to leave site earlier than originally planned. We ask you to inform the Site Staff before 12 midday, 72 hours prior to the new departure date. This enables us to make the pitch available to other visitors. Failure to do so will incur a charge of the first cancelled night. The Club reserves the right to change this policy during the season.

So the most one can lose is the cost of one night's stay. I've not heard of this being carried forward.

Nor me, Corners, and I think use of the word "retention" says it all really.

Some years ago we booked 2 weeks in the Norfolk broads site from arrival the weather was atrocious after 3 days with no sign of change we decided to leave and go to Battle East Sussex I informed the wardens I wished to leave the next day and move to Battle, they couldn't have been more helpful they arranged everything from speaking to the Battle warden, transferring the booking and payment with no loss of money all in good spirits and happy to be helpful, this was a perfect example of customer service from the wardens at both sites and how a club for the members should be run, the sun came out at the Dartford bridge and stayed for the duration of our holiday.

No I really don’t think so. We once had to leave Moreton in Marsh site early due to illness and we lost the money for that night.

That’s a different scenario as it’s a swap of sites and incurred no loss of revenue to the club so there is no penalty. Many of us have done that. PB's situation is that he left due to illness and did not move to another club site.

Correct TW but he also complained about the churlish behaviour of the wardens and asked where have all the kind and helpful gone, my example was there are still some around, loosing the cost of the nights stay that's how it is at least getting something back is a bonus the money was already spent so not really a loss, there are not many organisations that would give any refund for cutting short a holiday no matter the reason, I would think the uncaring treatment hurt more than the money lost. my example also shows how flexible the club is at the moment and that benifits all members.

Correct TW but he also complained about...

Arch do you realise that what you're describing is from a post dated from 2013?

PB did not make any reference about the warden's attitude at all in his reply today above.

Incky (OP) did post about the warden's attitude Posted on 11/08/2013

I think you are getting the opening post and PB’s post mixed up Arch. It was the OP from nearly ten years ago that commented on the Wardens, not PB. His forfeit of a night’s stay is more recent. Either way, it’s not a staff decision, but Club T&Cs.

Contacting HQ and stating your case might get a different result, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

The T&Cs would have been different 9 years ago and not the current "72" hour one in existence today. This is evident by the fact that the OP lost 2 days fees as forfeit not 1.

Not sure what the T&Cs were back then and it's about as irrelevant as a thread subject could be 9 years on. Time for the Mods to step in.

well to be fair, is it any more churlish than saying a post is boring Arch?

I wonder if the OP is even still a member? doesn't have any recent activity?

I think Corners has made my point, Arch. For your information, my post was made in humour as illustrated by the emojis.

This episode again shows the wisdom of us carefully reading posts before posting.

There’s no Member banner, Corners so I guess Incky has left the club 🤷🏻‍♂️
