Password for Micosoft 8.2

Help would be much appreciated - for some reason I had to change my sign in password - then went away before the new one was in my head!  So my laptop won't start!  Any hints I remember doing it years ago but getting nowhere fast this time.  Thanks.  PS I am using iPad atm.
