DPF removal

With more and more car tuning companies offering DPF removal and ECU remapping it is very tempting to consider this option if I buy a three or four year old diesel car as I only mainly do short runs when not towing.

     They claim the MOT is not affected, MPG is improved and nothing is visibly changed. Sounds too good to be true so does anyone know of any problems after removing the guts of the DPF, and what is the legal position after of carrying out the modification.
