Winners and losers?
Last week my sister’s hubby Danny was walking their dog on some council land at the rear of some nearby houses when he spotted a large pile of logs dumped on the grass. Remembering that my OH’s brother has a log burner he called round to the front of the
house and asked the owner [a lady living on her own] if she owned the logs. At first she denied ownership possibly fearing prosecution for fly tipping but when Danny explained he wanted to know if he could take some logs she told him to take as many as he
wanted, the men who cut down her tree had left them. He then phoned me up explaining the situation and that afternoon I filled the back of my X trail with some logs and delivered them to my OH’s brother, who was obviously delighted with the free logs.
The next morning Danny was again walking his dog and spotted a man filling a wheelbarrow with the logs and taking them to his house four doors away. Ah says Danny with a grin “helping yourself to some free logs are you?” Not exactly says the man “I
asked the men cutting down the tree if I could have some logs and they charged me £20 for these” Danny walked quietly away and phoned to warn me not to take any more logs.
Who are the winners and losers in this true tale?
