We have just made the huge decision, due to health reasons,to change from caravan to motorhome. We obviously will have to think about public transport and wondered if there are any web sites which list sites that have bus stops virtually at the gates.

Don't know of any such guides but you can always check where bus stops are using Google Earth

Yes, butI have beento 2 C&CC sites where the offibcial descriptions said, bus stop at entrance. Both were true, but the busses were school run only! Not very useful.

Huskydog, Since the search  facility here is wayward, just Google for Campsites with public transport. It will give you a thread on here about three years ago with dozens of suggestions. Good luck.

However, if you look at Google maps and touch on the bus stop, it will bring up the service numbers from that stop. If you touch on these it will bring up a time table. Hopefully that should weed out the school run services.

Your welcome, actually I just noticed I missed a step out. Touching the bus stop brings up it's name, touching this brings up the service numbers.

Also usefully it brings up a streetview picture. We always find it useful to look at the stop where we want to get off, and identify a feature prior to it. You can then ring the bell in good time and avoid overshoots.

There's an app. called Moovit. It gives you bus stops and time of the next arrival, destination etc. I have mainly used it for local buses but you can put a selected location in.

    You might find this
    thread
useful. Whilst its not principally about public transport it does list sites where no car is needed to get out and about. It could be a starting point to investigate nearby public transport.

CC facilities search supposedly can throw up sites with public transport less than a mile away so it could help in narrowing the options. When on site, we sometimes use the on-line journey planner provided by some applications. Many sites also provide bus
    timetables.

Whilst some of us motorhomers do use public transport, it is possible to motorhome without if you choose the right vehicle such as one 6m long and c2.2m wide or less wide and can accept the compromises - many do. Hymer's new van range includes motorhomes
5.45m long [about 2 foot longer than a Mondeo estate] and 2.2m wide [4 inches wider] which should just about fit into most parking spaces.

We had to change for similar reasons to the OP, we've kept our purchases to smaller motorhomes since then. Our van conversion was the best for getting around and our present small coachbuilt just about fits in most places. We very often don't move the van
from a site when we're on it and if going to an area I look up the bus timetables in advance to see routes and stops. Sometimes I print these off but usually the sites have timetables. Nearest bus stops are something I look out for in site reviews. The site
details on line have also improved in accuracy about bus stops and frequency.

Have been motorhomers for two years and have done lots of trips in UK. We do not like to move the motorhome once set up and have always been successful in using local buses (fortunately being of an age to have a bus pass), even a train once with not too
much walking involved. For example the buses from the C&CC Chichester site go right along the coast to Portsmouth in one direction and Brighton going the other way. Sus out before you go and you will really enjoy. Get to see scenery without having to concentrate
on driving and no hassle finding or paying for a parking space and fuel.

We're happy to enjoy good health but are also old enough to get our bus passes (60 in Scotland).  We make considerable use of public transport whenever possible.  As suggested,Google maps will bring up bus stops and it's easy to check timetables. We have
managed to walk most of the Deeside and Speyside way in easy stages by using the bus to take us to and from the start and finish of the walk.
