Connecting the gas supply

I've just taken delivery of a new Xplore 434. I am having difficulty connecting the Calor regulator to my 7kg butane gas bottle.When disconnected I can turn the on[fire symbol]/ off [green stripe] switch but can't turn it on when I push the head on to the
gas bottle. What am I doing wrong?
